We continue our core values series on the common good by asking ourselves if we’ve built enough compassion and capacity to actually contribute to our local communities.

One of the two greatest commandments is “love your neighbor as yourself.” Yet in today’s age, our churches often wrestle with the how-tos of “loving our neighbor.” We’ve awakened to the reality that by solely focusing on the gospel’s spiritual significance, churches have ignored its physical implications. But we’re on to something. Our questions are evolving once again: “Is our church helping without hurting?” “Is our charity toxic?”
